This past Tuesday, Read Write Now attended the City of Swan Volunteer Expo at the Midland Town Hall. Opened by the mayor David Lucas, it was a full house featuring the likes of the Australian Red Cross, Trillion Trees, Bicycles for Humanity and more. The packed event was held as part of the much broader National Volunteer Week.
There was significant interest in the volunteer tutoring program, which sees people with developed literacy skills matched up with adults who wish to learn reading, writing, maths, study or basic computer skills. The tutoring takes place at your local library or public venue and is a flexible commitment usually 1-2 hours a week. If you would like to register your interest in becoming a tutor, please head to https://www.read-write-now.org/ and fill out a ‘tutor application form’. All that is needed is a willingness to teach, as there is free training lead by the program that will get you up to scratch.
