The Weekly Update

We've Got This

For Read Write Now, the Covid-19 restrictions have proved tricky to navigate and work around.

We have operated since 1977 and our strengths have always been that the tutoring service is face-to-face, one-to-one and flexible.  Tutors and students usually meet weekly and usually at their local public library.

Flexibility has now become the key word in the process.  While many of the volunteers have embraced technology and found new ways to communicate and teach their students - Skype, Zoom, WhatsApp, Messenger video etc., sometimes the old ways of meeting together prevail; they’re just tweaked a little.

One tutor and student have taken a very original approach – the tutor reported "my student drives to my house and sets herself up on my verandah at a safe distance. I stay inside and we communicate through the open window!”

Volunteers are the best!
